Isuzu F-Series Ride and Drive [Photos]

Heavy Duty Trucking Managing Editor Vesna Brajkovic and Work Truck Assistant Editor Louis Prejean put Isuzu's Class 6 and Class 7 F-Series trucks to the test on the test tracks at the newly completed Allison Transmission Innovation Center in Indianapolis. 

The trucks available during the Ride and Drive were equiped with the Allison 2000 series transmission.

Isuzu had its Class 5 Isuzu NRR truck available to demostrate the company's propreitary automatic braking functionality at test tracks adjacent to the Allison Transmission Innovation Center.

Isuzu Commerical Truck of America President Shaun Skinner gave fleets an update on the medium-duty truck market, saying the company follows IHS Markit and ACT Research reports, which forecast bullish growth.

The manuverability course was set up to mimick the kinds of turns and manuvers a truck would have to make in a residential or urban envirnoment.

The Allison Transmission Innovation Center in Indianapolis opened in March 2022. It is a 96,000-square-foot facility designed to develop and validate products and technology.

Ride and Drive participants were invited to watch the GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway near the Allison Innovation Center.

Drivers were instructed to drive between 25 to 30 mph straight ahead towards an obstacle in the road without pressing the brake. This enables the automatic braking system to engage and the truck to avoid hitting the obstacle.

Isuzu, Cummins and Allison Transmission invited members of the media and about 40 fleet officials, which represent about 50,000 Isuzu trucks on the road, to test out the F-Series Class 6 and Class 7 trucks at the Allison Innovation Center in Indianapolis.

The course was set up with narrow bends and a roundabout, which illustrated how sharp the truck could turn.
