Large truckload carriers have the highest turnover, and hit an all-time high of 136% in the fourth quarter of 2005. Private fleets, however, report exceptional retention and turnover performance — 11.3% last year with an average retention of 11.8 years. A 2012 survey of 300 trucking companies in Texas found that “highly successful” companies differed from their peers in driver benefits. To qualify as “highly successful,” a company had to report revenue growth, a net profit margin of at least 10% and a minimum of 11 drivers.
