First Look: Mack is Back in Medium-Duty [Photos]

HDT Executive Editor David Cullen gives you a the first look at Mack Trucks' new Class 6 MD6 and Class 7 MD7 truck models.

The rollout of the new series on Jan. 30, 2020 at the OEM's new production plant in Salem, Virginia, marked Mack's return to the medium-duty market after departing it more than 15 years ago.

Unmistakably a⁦ Mack Truck, new Class 6 and 7 MD Series models share exterior design cues with Class 8 Bulldogs.

The chrome Bullodg affixed to the hood of every MD trucks signifies it is built with major components from several outside suppliers, all of which are, like Mack, U.S.-based.

Displayed outside Mack's new⁩ production plant in Salem, Virginia, are new MD trucks, one fitted with a stakebed and the other with a van body.

Cab features include reduced step-up height and short hood for better downward visibility. Inside, drivers are greeted by an ergonomic wraparound dash, tilt/telescopic steering column with a “flat-bottomed” wheel, and driver air-ride seat.

This MD Series cab is fitted with an extra window on the passenger side to improve outward visibility for the driver.  

Lurking under the hood of every Mack MD truck is a a Cummins B6.7L diesel engine, rated 220 to 300 hp and 560 to 660 lb.-ft. of torque.

All MD Series trucks are equiipped with Allison 6-speed automatic transmissions, including one rated for PTO use.
