The 2019 Heavy Duty Trucking Exchange was a hosted buyer event that brought fleet decision-makers and suppliers together in Phoenix for two days of networking, one-on-one meetings, education and a little fun. HDTX brings the top innovators in the Class 7 and 8 markets together with the suppliers that help them move more than 10 billion tons of freight across the country every year, giving them an intimate environment in which to engage in discussions on topics that affect the entire industry. North American Council for Freight Efficiency Industry Engagement Director Dave Schaller spoke about the benefits of using the hours of service rules to help increase a fleet’s revenue, improve their driver recruitment programs, and ensure that once drivers are through the door and in the trucks, they stay there.


A handful of attendees won one-year memberships to the ATA's Technology and Maintenance Council.

The Top Golf event gave attendees some time to unwind after a day full of informative meetings and presentations.

U.S. Army (Retired) Col. David W. Sutherland's presentation "Lead from the Front," a keynote speech based on his vast military combat experience, ended with a standing ovation from everyone in attendance.

Jeff Sass, Hendrickson's vice president of marketing, highlighted the idea that trucking will have to get better at logistics and making the trade appeal to young people, and that we shouldn't waste too much time on pipe-dreams like platooning and autonomous trucks — at least not for some time to come.


The event's one-on-one meetings, jokingly referred to as speed dating, give suppliers and buyers time to see if there was a possible "match" between the two.
