ZF has added an aerodynamic mudflap to its OptiFlow line. The OptiFlow Flap features a curved honeycomb design made with durable material that offers protection and improved aerodynamics performance, according to the company.

Introduced at the Technology & Maintenance Council annual meeting, the OptiFlow helps enhance fuel efficiency by reducing drag — compared to conventional mud flaps that have the opposite effect of increasing drag and lowering fuel efficiency.

ZF says the OptiFlow mud flap can offer fuel savings of up to 1% for long trailers, 2% for short (pup) trailers. Reduced fuel usage leads to a reduction of truck emissions, significantly lowering a vehicle's carbon impact.

The flaps are pre-approved by the California Air Resources Board to meet its trailer regulations when combined with OptiFlow TrailerSkirts.

The new flaps come with a five-year warranty.

The OptiFlow line is an outgrowth of ZF's acquisition of Wabco and integration into its new Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) division.
