Employee screening provider HireRight has launched a new sleep apnea study service as part of its screening offering for the transportation industry.

HireRight’s service provides a portable testing device that can be used in any natural sleeping environment – at home, in a hotel, or even a sleeper berth – rather than requiring an overnight stay at a sleep study lab. The service can identify obstructive sleep apnea, allowing drivers to quickly get treatment, according to the company.

The new HireRight sleep study service includes concierge-level service for both the driver and motor carrier throughout the process.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 72,000 accidents and 800 deaths were caused by driver fatigue in 2013 and obstructive sleep apnea is a significant contributor to driver fatigue.

“Sleep apnea is a serious health risk for truck drivers, and it’s critical for motor carriers to help their drivers get assessed and treated for it in order to improve their overall health and wellbeing,” said Steven Spencer, managing director of transportation and health care, HireRight. “Sleep study testing is crucial for public safety and Department of Transportation compliance.”

HireRight provides on-demand employment background checks, drug and health screening, and electronic Form I-9 and E-Verify solutions for employers. For more information, click here.

Maybe it's the crappy jail mattresses that we are continually forced to sleep on. What choice do we have? Not everyone can afford a $600-$800 mattress for their trucks.

My machine works great so I recommend getting tested. It's helped lower my blood pressure too.

Sleep Apnea is a Medical Issue and can be misdiagnosed by the untrained like Hireright.

Probably 20% of truckers have sleep apnea...but why...as they drive and drive and never have the "real chance" at exercise...they gain weight, get fat pats and obstructions in their' necks and throats...where apnea occurs....apnea is statistically prevalent in overweight people; truckers' are ripe for this phenomenon to occur to them within 5-10 years of trucking...and no medical coverage or course of action to take......

Just keep driving for FREE guys....who the f*ck cares about truckers anyway?

Is it true that HireRight went bankrupt when they lost their Gov't. business for false background checks?

You're government is telling you that if your overweight you are going to whair one whether you want to or not . They've been working on it for a while and have gone so far as to only alow D.o.t. certified doctor's to administer the test and have told them that if a person is age 50 has a neck size 17 or is overweight they must have a sleep study done at the drivers expense and if it isfound that you nead one you're out of pocket for that too or tha doctor can face legal consequences if said driver should get in a wreck. it's all a scam that they have implemented to drain the pockets of struggling truck drivers all in the name of safety. It is a disgrace the way Truck Drivers have been humiliated buy the Government intrusion i did not nead the cpap machine and i am out of pocket over 1000.00 dollars and 2 days of work It is discussing !
