Volvo Trucks said its North American deliveries are up 39 percent over last year and by 149 percent in July, as demand for its long-distance trucks are on the rise.
In addition, the company says its new trucks equipped with EPA 2010 engines are well received by customers.

Year-to-date, Volvo's North American deliveries are at 5,548 units, compared to 3,986 units in the 2009 period. In July alone, 1,094 units were delivered this year, compared to a very weak July 2009, which delivered 378 units.

Globally, July truck deliveries were up 116 percent from July 2009, as "demand for new trucks continues to increase in several markets," the company said.

In Europe, 14,462 trucks were delivered during the first seven months of 2010, an increase of 18 percent. This can be compared with July, when the increase in Europe was 80 percent.

Volvo Trucks North America recently announced it would be recalling about 270 former employees to its New River Valley assembly plant in Dublin, Va., following a boost in orders for new trucks and in preparation for increased production.
