Rand McNally has selected Navteq Transport to power its new truck navigation device, IntelliRoute TND 500.

Using Rand McNally's proprietary routing engine and road restriction data and utilizing the capabilities of Navteq Transport, routes are calculated based on attributes such as length, width and height to calculate either the quickest or shortest routes. Spoken directions are provided in addition to a five-inch screen display.

The device will include Navteq's map data, as well as its turn-by-turn navigation and detailed road attributes including height, length and weight restrictions, legal restrictions, Hazmat and specific points of interest like truckstops.

"Truckers who have been beta testing the device have been especially pleased with the trucker business tools and accurate truck routing down to the address level," said Donna Koppensteiner, vice president of global enterprise, Rand McNally. "It provides accurate truck-specific navigation along with business tools to help the driver save time, miles and money."
