Averitt Express, a provider of freight transportation and supply chain management, has chosen the patented Global Locating System (GLS) trailer tracking technology from SkyBitz.
Headquartered in Cookeville, Tenn., Averitt Express is initially deploying SkyBitz trailer tracking technology for the more than 4,000 trailers in its truckload fleet.
Based on a successful implementation and return on investment, Averitt Express plans to implement the technology for its less-than-truckload and dedicated fleets.
Averitt Express is employing SkyBitz trailer tracking technology to improve productivity and equipment utilization by knowing where every trailer in the fleet is at any given moment.
"We completed a comprehensive ROI analysis for several trailer tracking providers, and we chose SkyBitz based on the cost of the units and installation costs," said David Henry, director, System Design for Averitt Express. "We also chose SkyBitz because we feel its satellite tracking capabilities are superior to cellular."
"When the data for SkyBitz tracking units is fully integrated with the customer's TMS, not only will Averitt have total visibility of their tractors, drivers and loads but also every trailer in its truckload fleet," said Roni Taylor, executive vice president of SkyBitz. "This visibility will make it possible for Averitt to haul more freight with existing equipment by reducing the number of days the trailers sit idle and decreasing the trailer-to-tractor ratio."
