LogiSense Corp., Cambridge, Ont., Canada, said its EngageIPHotspot Suite software solution will be implemented in Truckstop.net’s 802.11g Wi-Fi networks
in as many as 3,000 truck stops, travel plazas, repair shops and terminals in North America.
Truckstop.net uses Wi-Fi communications to provide Internet access and other services to drivers. Many of the wireless networks can be accessed from the truck cab, using a laptop computer with an inexpensive 802.11b or 802.11g plug-in card.
Wireless communications with 802.11g standard can be more than four times faster than with the more common 802.11b standard. However, both operate in the 2.4 GHz frequency range, so both kinds of hardware operate on both Wi-Fi standards. However 802.11g hardware will operate at the higher speeds on an 802.11g network and at lower speeds on an 802.11b network. Hardware build to the 802.11b will run on both, but only at the 802.11b speeds.
In November, Truckstop.net and Sprint announced an agreement that includes both network services and deployments, including the Pilot chain of truckstops and travel centers.
Truckstop.net will have 500 locations deployed with LogiSense's technology by the end of March, with about 200 locations per month over the next year.
