SkyBitz, a Dulles, Va.-based provider of tracking and data communication services, has named Andy Wood chief executive officer of the company.
Wood brings a combination of experience managing emerging technology companies and first-hand knowledge of transportation and logistics, according to Michael Walsch, Skybitz director and a principal at AIG Highstar Capital.
"His expertise in guiding emerging companies to profitability with sustainable and repeatable business models will help both our near-term and long-term growth," Walsh said.
SkyBitz provides tracking and data communication services based on its Global Locating Service (GLS) technology. GLS is a patented technology that transforms the Internet, communication satellite networks and low-cost mobile radio electronics into a strategic information service to help businesses manage their assets.

Wood comes to the SkyBitz team from his position as CEO of Shutterfly, a leading independent online photo finisher, where he streamlined operations, sharply focused company goals and led the company to profitability well ahead of schedule. Prior to his work with Shutterfly, Wood established EXEL North America, which he built into a top logistics service provider with $500 million in annual revenues after only four years.
