British Company Offers High-Orbit Satellite Tracking in U.S.

British telematics provider Satamatics Ltd. has received FCC permission to offer services in the U.S. The company has opened an office in Ocala, Fla., as Satamatics-Americas.

Satamatics will provide short-messaging and asset tracking services using the Inmarsat D+ satellite network, geostationary satellites 23,000 miles above the earth that offer near-universal coverage. According to an announcement, the company offers “asset tracking and tracing for marine and land transport, remote management for the water, oil and gas industries, and security-safety monitoring for remote premises and personnel.” Satamatics coverage includes virtually the entire earth with the exception of polar areas.
