Horton presents 3 millionth fan drive to U.S. Xpress.
Representatives from Horton and the trucking company that purchased the drive, U.S. Xpress, gathered on Friday to mark the occasion.
Horton executives presented a special edition of the fan drive made into a trophy to executives at the Chattanooga, Tenn., trucking company.
“We are thrilled to have reached this milestone after almost 30 years of manufacturing fan drives," said Randy Nord, President and COO of Horton. “We’re delighted that U.S. Xpress, one of our largest customers, is our partner in this occasion.”
The 3 millionth fan drive ordered from Horton by U.S. Xpress is the DriveMaster model. Friday’s occasion comes as Horton celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
Horton produced its first fan drive in 1964, but it took some time for the idea to catch on.
“The fan drive was a product before its time. The market didn’t fully embrace it until 1972,” said Gary Pellegrom, director of OEM and national account sales at Horton.
Horton officials also said they are just entering another market as well — the engine fan business. Their designed and built unit will be available on nearly every 2002 heavy truck diesel engine, and it is already undergoing some testing in the aftermarket. Further down the road, Horton officials say they hope to introduce a multi-variable fan clutch for the 2007 model truck engine.
