The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has proposed a pilot program that would relax hours-of-service rules during winter months for some home heating oil delivery drivers.
The Department of Transportation is not moving quickly enough to name a boss for the new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, said Rep. Frank Wolf, R-VA.
Wolf’s complaint came during a Feb. 15 hearing on the DOT budget. The House Transportation Appropriations Committee, which Wolf chairs, is concerned about the slow progress of finding an administrator for the new agency, Wolf told DOT Secretary Rodney Slater.

Effective May 2, 2000, anyone who transports or offers for transport placardable quantities of hazardous materials must register as a hazmat hauler with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Research and Special Programs Administration. The annual registration fee will be $300 or $2,000 depending on the size of the company.
