Canadian Truckers Slam Increasing U.S. Border Fees

Canadian truckers have blasted a U.S. proposal that would greatly hike some fees at the border. The fleet group, the Canadian Trucking Alliance, says it strongly objects to a proposal from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to substantially raise the Animal Plant and Health Inspection Service fees.

Economic Watch: New Home Sales Post Biggest Jump Since 1992

Sales of new single-family houses in May 2014 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 504,000, according to a new U.S. Commerce Department report, its strongest pace in six years and the largest one month increase since 1992, while a separate report shows consumer confidence hit its highest level in more than six-years this month.

U.S. Intermodal Rail Traffic Hits Weekly Record High

The Association of American Railroads reported increased U.S. rail traffic for the week ending June 14, with 295,132 total carloads, up 2.2% compared with the same week last year. This was the highest week in history for total U.S. intermodal volume, reaching 270,243 units.

Former FMCSA Administrator Annette Sandberg supports the trucking industry's push for a study on the impact of the current restart provision while rolling the restart rules back to pre-July 2013. Sandberg says the trucking industry supports suspending the restart restrictions because they believe that good public policy comes from good data and a good understancfing of the facts, not from emotional appeals.
