On the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, the transportation industry continues to recognize the vital role freight carriers play in maintaining the integrity of freight.

Today, RUAN Transportation Management Systems announced the availability of its white paper on transport security, called "Protecting Freight in Transport."
The white paper covers four significant areas in the transportation industry: hiring practices, proper employee training, utilizing technology and industry responsibilities. It examines how RUAN is protecting freight from deliberate sabotage, and offers information and resources to assist others in the industry.
"It is imperative that companies work together when discussing the best practices to combat terror," said Bob Hargis, vice president of Risk Management for RUAN Transportation and Management Services. "We penned this white paper to help foster discussions and encourage other companies to share their successes in keeping freight secure."
Although initial government security measures have been put in place, there is still a need to review these procedures, tighten existing systems and create new ones where necessary.
"We have taken many measures as an industry to put regulations in place to increase security," said Hargis. "However, we still have a long way to go, and if the entire industry collaborates as a team, we will be rewarded with a solid security solution much faster."
"Protecting Freight Integrity in Transport" is available for download on RUAN’s web site at www.ruan.com.
