IdleAire’s Advanced Truckstop Electrification (ATE) technology has delivered 5 million hours of service to the nation’s fleets and drivers and the figure continues to climb,
the company announced.
The last million hours of use was recorded in a four month period.
“That’s at least five million gallons of diesel conserved – or $15,750,000 at today’s prices – and from $2.5 to $5 million in maintenance and engine wear avoided,” said IdleAire Executive Vice President Lynn Youngs. “Furthermore, that’s over 53,000 metric tons of diesel emissions the industry has avoided. And all of these savings have been achieved on a voluntary, business solution basis without government idling restrictions,” added Youngs.
“Achievements such as these continue to demonstrate clearly that truck owners and drivers will use a commonsense, business-based alternative to idling if that alternative doesn’t place the financial burden and risk on them. IdleAire is that alternative because it not only removes the financial investment and risk for the fleets, it gives them a new and very effective tool to retain and recruit drivers,” said Youngs.
Unlike other idling alternatives on the market, IdleAire’s system is accessible to any long-haul truck on the road with a simple $10 window adapter that remains with the truck. The system requires no expensive retrofits such as electrically powered HVAC systems and the wiring harness that connects them, or the maintenance they require. IdleAire system features include filtered, central heating and cooling (the primary reason drivers idle in the first place), electrical shorepower outlets inside and outside the cab, a Pentium-speed computer with color touch screen interface, unlimited e-mail and high-speed Internet, an Ethernet port, a telephone connection, satellite television, movies on demand and continuing education and training opportunities.
