ACT Expo Ride-and-Drive Highlights ZEV, Alt-Fuel Trucks [Photos]

The Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in Long Beach, California, showcased not only the latest zero-emission electric and hydrogen technologies, but also cleaner options such as renewable natural gas and hybrids. Here's a sampling of the medium- and heavy-duty trucks our editors spotted at tthe 2022 ride-and-drive event.

There were longer lines for a ride in the Nikola Tre fuel-cell-electric model than any of the other vehicles in the ride and drive.

While it looks like a sleeper cab, the Nikola Tre FCEV is really just a day cab. The hydrogen storage tank rack is located directly behind the cab, occupying the space of the sleeper compartment.

Peterbilt offered its 579 EV powered by Meritor's Blue Horizon battery electric powertrain.

Hino showed its battery-electric M5 chassis powered by SEA-Drive 120 in the ride ad drive, while two fuel-cell tractors were displayed on the trade show floor.

Hyundai's Excient 6×2 fuel cell electric box truck. The truck is powered by a 190-kW hydrogen fuel cell system with two 95-kW fuel cell stacks.

Daimler's New eCascadia was unveiled at ACT Expo just a day ahead of the ride and drive event.

Daimler's latest generation battery-electric eCascadia offers range of up to 230 miles with 438 kWh battery pack. Power ratings go from 320-470 hp, and it can recharge to 80% in 90 minutes.

Hyundai Excient 6x2 Class 8 tractor. Hyundai plans to deploy 30 Class 8 6x4 Xcient Fuel Cell heavy-duty tractors at the Port of Oakland in 2023.

The ride-and-drive event at ACT Expo 2022 offered about six hours of driving time. Attendees we keen to check these vehicles out up close.

The Lion6 is a purpose-built all-electric Class 6 truck. It has battery capacity up to 252 kWh and the motor produces 250 kW or 335 hp. Anticipated range is 200 miles.

Via uses a scalable and flexible electric skateboard platform for Class 2, 3, 4 and 5 vans and trucks, along with a modular body and drive system.

Hyzon had a Class 8 tractor in drayage configuration with 300-350 mile range. Hyzon uses hydrogen produced from renewable sources such as waste, biogas and RNG along with solar and wind.
