Daimler Trucks Execs Share Successes, Peek into Future

Although truck sales are not where they thought they would be a year ago, Daimler Trucks executives say they've achieved a list of goals and are solidly on top in U.S. market share – but they'd like to see the U.S. government take some steps to provide a more stable economic environment and incentivize the purchase of new, cleaner-burning trucks.

DTNA Goes Beyond Trucks and Components with New Detroit Telematics Suite

The 7-inch touchscreen can be used by drivers wearing gloves.

Building on the success of its Virtual Technician product, Daimler Trucks North America is going full-bore ahead with telematics. It unveiled the Detroit Connect On-Board Tablet, which not only integrates with Virtual Technician and the Visibility fleet back-office software, but also offers hours of service, pre-and post-trip inspections, two-way messaging and navigation.

As interest in natural gas power broadens, Freightliner is adding options that appeal to fleets wanting greater range and fuel savings technologies. The company plans to increase the operating range of some natural-gas-fueled trucks out to 800 miles.

Recalls Issued For Daimler, Volvo and Navistar Trucks

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced three truck makers -- Daimler Trucks North America, Volvo and Navistar International -- are recalling vehicles, for defects including daytime running lights, a battery disconnect switch and an axle bearing retaining nut lock snap ring.

Daimler Trucks North America Achieves Market Share, Fuel Efficiency Milestones

Daimler Trucks North America wants to expand its export business, such as this Australian Argosy.

Daimler Trucks North America outlined a number of milestones and achievements it accomplished over the past year, including being the market leader in Class 6 and 7 for the first time ever, completing Phase One of the SuperTruck program, and announcing a new international export goal. This announcement was made during an event for North American trade press this week in Cabos San Lucas, Mexico.
