The less-than-truckload carrier ABF Freight saw its August billed revenue per day increase by approximately 10% above last year's level, according to a disclosure it filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday.

Also, total tonnage per day increased by approximately 6% above last year's level while total billed revenue per hundredweight increased by approximately 4%.

“[It] was impacted by freight mix changes related to increases in the amount of LTL shipments moving through the ABF Freight network and a reduction of truckload-rated tonnage associated with price increases implemented on spot business,” the company said.

Meantime, rival Saia announced it had a 7.6% increase in LTL tonnage per day in July 2014 compared to a year earlier. For the month of August, LTL tonnage per day increased 7.2% compared to August 2013.
