Western Star Truck Sales, Inc. will offer customers an opportunity test drive its all-new 4700 truck model and compare it to leading competitor models at World of Concrete 2012.

The Serious Truck Challenge features the first public ride-and-drive in Western Star's all-new 4700 truck model. Competitors will be tested on different challenges that simulate various construction tasks, such as parallel parking, s-curves, driver side parking, blind side parking and the backing up and stopping on a 42-foot long, steeply graded ramp - all designed to highlight Western Star truck's maneuverability through confined work spaces.

"The Serious Trucks Challenge is the perfect way for us to showcase our products, and with the addition of the 4700 to this year's event, competitors will get first-hand experience with the smooth, quiet ride and rugged capabilities that make Western Star the ideal solution for the construction segment," said Ann Demitruk, director of marketing, Western Star.

The Western Star 4700SF dump truck will be equipped with a 450 hp Detroit Diesel DD13® engine and Allison 4500 RDS transmission. The 4700 features a 110-inch BBC and is ideal for the dump, mixer, crane and roll-off applications.

Additional Western Star trucks available for the challenge include the 4800SF dump truck featuring an Allison 3000 RDS, and a 4900SF mixer equipped with an Allison 4700 RDS featuring second reverse - ideal for optimal driver control and engine braking during operation on steep grades.

Western Star's 6900XD 40-ton dump and a twin-steer chassis are also scheduled to be on display.

Participants must have a current CDL to participate, and can register on site any time during World of Concrete show hours.

The Serious Trucks Challenge will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24 through Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 in the Silver Lot outside of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
