The Texas Department of Transportation launched the Texas Permitting & Routing Optimization System, TxPROS, Aug. 30 for overweight and oversized loads.

TxPROS is a GIS-based mapping system that provides real-time restriction management. Carriers can apply for a permit, pay the fee and route shipments on suitable roads online. The system will also generate a route map and turn-by-turn directions for drivers. The process takes minutes, instead of hours on the previous system.

TxPROS also allows carriers to manage their account information. Users are encouraged to clean up their accounts in TxPROS on first access to the new system by adding missing information and updating contact information.

The software was developed with ProMiles.

The former Central Permit System is retired. Carriers can access TxPROS using their CPS login and password. All account information including escrow account funds were transferred.
