Xtra Lease has ordered more than 3,000 composite dry vans and about 400 new refrigerated trailers that will be available for rent and lease this year.
The company also ordered a selection of liftgate and pintle-hook trailers, and a mix of swing- and overhead doors and spring- and air-ride suspensions on the vans.

"We've ordered a variety of trailers this year which maintain our high standard for damage-resistance and durability," said Bill Franz, Xtra Lease president and CEO. "Plus, the order provides fleets great versatility in meeting specific shipping needs and demands."

Several hundred 53-foot vans will have liftpads and top-rail protection installed, ideal for fleets that need periodic usage of vans in railroad trailer on flat car movement. Many of the new trailers will be outfitted with roll doors with e-track cargo control.

The 2010 order includes a supply of 57-foot vans for the southwest region, 28-foot liftgate pups for the western region, 48-foot pintle-hook trailers for the northeast region and 53-foot pintle hook trailers for the southwest.

Other trailer specifications include aluminum roofs; spring-ride suspension on many vans, including an air-assisted slider pin release system; air-ride suspensions on many trailers, including an air-assisted slider pin release system and automatic dump valve; and crossmember spacing on 10-inch centers. Liftgate vans will have sidewall skylights and logistics seams on 24-inch centers. All reefers will be equipped with a fuel-saving electronic throttling valve and remote status light with fuel sensor. Liftgates will also feature single- and dual-charge receptacles.
