A representative from Wabash National is participating in the Heavy-Duty Fuel Efficiency Leadership Group, a coalition of medium-and heavy-duty fleets and technology providers to inform and support a workable national program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the fuel efficiency of trucks
.

The company was on hand during last week's event at the White House, when President Obama directed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Transportation to set national requirements for fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions for trucks.

"Improving fuel efficiency and developing new aerodynamic solutions has been a growing trend in our industry over the past 5 years," said Dick Giromini, president and CEO of Wabash. "We recognize and support the need for a well-designed regulatory structure that results in substantial fuel efficiency gains and GHG reductions."

In July 2009, Wabash National's DuraPlate Products Group launched the DuraPlate AeroSkirt, an aerodynamic accessory for semi-trailers. Testing verified that a trailer equipped with the DuraPlate AeroSkirt can provide a 6 percent fuel efficiency improvement.
