Star Leasing Company, Columbus, Ohio, will use GE Asset Intelligence's VeriWise trailer tracking for its fleet of lease and rental trailers, including dry vans, flatbeds, and refrigerated vans
. Star Leasing owns over 12,000 trailers, which it leases and rents throughout the Midwest and Southeast

The company was impressed by VeriWise's future enhancements, solar-power, reefer monitoring and GPS Mileage feature, which allows Star Leasing to manage preventative maintenance and lease mileage with its customers.

"After testing GE VeriWise against other tracking systems for almost a year, we became convinced that the product and the company supporting it were in the best position to help us execute our proactive customer service and maintenance strategies, both now and in the future," said Steve Jackson, chief operating officer of Star Leasing. "The ability to remotely capture trailer mileage enables us to stay ahead of our customers' maintenance needs."

VeriWise is a web-based management tool, and the system hardware can be installed on virtually any trailer type, GE says. The system is powered through a combination of solar and the tractor's electrical system, which almost removes the need to replace batteries.

"When trailers are out on lease, it is not practical to recall them to change batteries in a tracking system," said Mike Hensley, vice president of operations. "Our focus needs to be ensuring our customers' trailers are in good operating condition and in compliance with recommended maintenance protocols."

Star Leasing has 10 branch locations in five states, where their mechanics have been certified to provide service and installation for other customers using VeriWise products.
