PrePass weigh station service has implemented solar technology on U.S. 1 near Flagler, Fla.
PrePass is a sophisticated system that enables qualified trucks to comply electronically with state safety, registration and weight requirements at highway speeds.

"PrePass' pioneering efforts can blaze a trail for a more sustainable and eco-friendly transportation system as other intelligent transportation technologies follow suit," said Richard Landis, president and CEO of HELP, Inc., the public private partnership that offers the weigh station technology.

Solar power is created from a small cluster of photovoltaic cells mounted on top of Florida's roadside PrePass reader. An on-site battery array enables energy to be stored for powering the reader during inclement periods of up to eight days.

Florida's Flagler site is one of 24 locations within the state using PrePass weigh station technology.
