Long-haul truckers who need occasional access to the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach will now be able to purchase day passes.

According to the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association, the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Commission unanimously approved a permanent day-pass system that will allow over the road truckers to make two port visits a month, and the Port of Long Beach was expected to pass a similar measure.

Trucks can purchase up to 24 day passes per year, for $30 per pass. As OOIDA notes in its coverage of this development, "The day-pass allows long-haulers to avoid a lengthy and expensive process to become port concessionaires as part of each port's Clean Trucks Program."

The Day Pass holders are required to sign up for the Day Pass at special link on the Port website, subject to requirements to confirm that the Day Pass holder will comply with the Ports' Clean Truck Program, including bans on older-model trucks, security and other basic conditions.
