FedEx Corp. is cutting 900 jobs at its FedEx Freight unit, about 2.6 percent of the less-than-truckload unit's 35,000 employees,
FedEx Freight Cutting Jobs
according to widely published reports.

FedEx officials cite greater than anticipated drop in shipments, and an aggressive pricing environment as the same number of carriers compete for a shrinking amount of business.

The cuts were made at 150 of the company's 475 terminals, reports Traffic World Online, which also says FedEx National LTL, the company's long-haul LTL network (formerly Watkins), will not be affected.

The layoffs will affect field office, dock, driver and shop tech employees. This move is in addition to the 540 employees FedEx Freight laid off in December.
