The Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) of the American Trucking Associations (ATA) has released its third update for Version 1.05 of the Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards (VMRS).

This latest update of VMRS 2000 contains more than 500 new or revised codes, many of which cover the bus body and emissions-related components used in the transportation and equipment industry. It includes all codes assigned as of Nov. 27, 2007.
There are three levels of licensing available for VMRS 2000. The Single Site license allows installation VMRS 2000 1.05 on a single computer. The Enterprise license version is available for companies that have a diverse arrangement of computers and repair sites. The Developer version is available for third-party software development companies that wish to integrate VMRS 2000 1.05 codes into their products to take advantage of industry-recognized coding conventions. Users of either the Enterprise or Developer version are eligible for free quarterly updates of new or enhanced VMRS codes.
Version 1.05 of VMRS 2000 is available by calling the ATA Marketplace at (800) 282-5463.
VMRS got its start as a way of creating standardized reports that transportation fleets could use to track the reliability of a host of products and components. It quickly evolved into a universal language that equipment owners and operators could use to enhance their ability to monitor equipment expense. It is now the management tool of choice for many fleet maintenance and equipment managers.
VMRS is a living entity because it grows and evolves along with the industry it serves. The ability of VMRS to respond quickly to the ever-changing needs of the industry is handled by TMC, the official custodian of VMRS 2000 1.05. TMC, through its licensing agreements, provides OEMs, manufacturers, part suppliers and other market providers access to VMRS as a means of supporting the transportation and equipment industry in ways such as adopting common parts numbering and coding conventions for equipment type and use, and use of a universal warranty claim process.
