Kansas City-based TruckMovers.com Inc. said it is equipping all of its drivers with Sprint PCS mobile phones that include Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. Through GPS, customers are now able
to determine a more precise location of their trucks by viewing the tracking information on the www.truckmovers.com Web site. Drivers carry the phones at all times while under load.
GPS has been set up through Sprint’s Business Mobility Framework, using a proprietary, secure interface that is integrated directly into TruckMovers.com’s computer system. The system is programmed to periodically check all driver phones and receive information on current latitude and longitude. In addition, a “hot link” is provided for dispatchers from TruckMovers.com into Google Earth, which then provides a satellite view showing the locations.
TruckMovers.com also has the capability to check each Sprint handset for real-time tracking. An additional benefit is that dispatchers can give better directions to drivers and, in an emergency, they can send a wrecker or other service provider to the driver’s exact location. Hundreds of GPS-equipped drivers are on the road at any one time across the United States.
“Offering this technology sets us apart and allows us to provide another valuable service to our customers,” said Tom Duvall, president and CEO of TruckMovers.com. “We are the first in the driveaway industry to offer this GPS service.”
