SKF, Plymouth, Mich., producer of sealing systems and anti-friction bearings, has signed a contract to provide a hubcap contaminant and venting solution for the Dana Spicer Low Maintenance System hubcap
for heavy-duty axle wheel-end applications. The hubcap system was developed in conjunction with Dana Corporation's Commercial Vehicle Systems group and will be available for use on Dana Spicer steer axles and trailer axles for several major North American truck and trailer manufacturers.
According to Charles E. Reagan, SKF national accounts manager, the hubcap solution allows the wheel-end to breathe without ingesting water from high pressure spray systems. Unlike other industry hubcaps, the Dana LMS has a labyrinth-style vent design which prevents clogging; it also includes a magnetized side-fill plug which captures metallic particles to protect wheel-end bearings and seals and reduce product life-cycle costs.
SKF is headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, with technology centers in the Netherlands, Italy and the United States.
