CNN reported today the anticipated merger of Sprint and Nextel has been officially announced. The resulting company will be called Sprint Nextel.
"The companies called the deal a merger of equals, saying shareholders will each own about 50% of the new company," CNN said.
Last minute bids by Verizon or Britain's Vodafone for Sprint or Nextel that had been rumored earlier this week failed to materialize.
