Eaton Corp. has signed a five-year agreement with VTTi Inc. to provide a new line of cellular-based diagnostic software for commercial vehicle service.

The agreement enhances the current diagnostic service tool product line that Eaton provides to the commercial vehicle service marketplace under the trademark "Eaton MDTM", which stands for "Mobile Diagnostics" The tools are provided by VTTi, Inc. of Tustin, Calif., a pioneer in the use of cellular phones in diagnostics.
John Coll, general manager of Truck Aftermarket division for Eaton, said the partnership, "brings Eaton MD power to a cellular phone platform for the first time in our industry."
The agreement allows VTTi to develop market-specific diagnostic and vehicle telematics products, according to John Morsey, vice president of Sales for VTTi. "These products promise to enhance the existing Eaton Mobile Diagnostic line by bringing new capabilities and services to the Eaton customer base. The products developed for Eaton will offer mobile diagnostics deployment that is both user-friendly, and extremely powerful."
A broad range of tool sets, options and accessories will be offered in 2004. The MD Tool, along with other service tools and supplies, are offered to service facilities and technicians through the Roadranger Store.
