The American Trucking Assns. (ATA) says the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has notified the American Assn. of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA)
that it intends to delay the implementation of fingerprint-based background checks.
ATA -- as well as AAMVA -- had petitioned TSA to delay this phase of the USA Patriot Act implementation due to the significant challenges that must be met before such a program can be effectively deployed on a uniform basis nationwide.
The length of the delay was not announced and ATA has not been informed of a new implementation date.
