Asset tracking provider Teletrac Inc., Garden Grove, Calif., has upgraded FleetDirector, its main fleet tracking system, to run over General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) networks.
Teletrac Upgrades to GPRS

The upgrade enables FleetDirector to provide wider North American coverage and higher bandwidth for greater, faster data transmission.
GPRS uses Internet protocols and runs on GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) networks. In the U.S., they include AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless and T-Mobile USA.
Teletrac also introduced Prism, an onboard location unit that upgrades FleetDirector users to the GPRS communication backbone. The Prism unit is now part of the FleetDirector system package, which includes hardware installed in the vehicle and Internet-based software that runs over the main office computer.
