New York's Thruway Authority has broken ground for a truckstop electrification station at the Chittenango Travel Plaza, according to the Post-Standard in Syracuse, N.Y.

An electrification station provides long-haul truckers with cab heating/cooling and electrical power during layovers. This reduces the need to leave truck engines idling, which wastes fuel.
The truckers will be able to pay with a credit card, officials said. Twenty-four units planned for the travel plaza, on the Thruway's westbound lanes between Exits 34 and 34A, Thruway officials said.
Parts of the plaza's parking lot will be closed during construction. The station should be operational by late March, officials said.
