XATA Corp., Minneapolis, Minn., has announced its fleet management systems will soon support various handheld devices.
XATA to Support Handhelds on Web Application

XATA is a provider of onboard systems and fleet management technologies, primarily to the private fleet sector.
XATA said it has completed development of fleet applications to support both Palm- and Windows CE-based operating systems on handheld devices.
XATA launched XATANET, a Web-based fleet management platform, in May. Earlier this week, XATA announced a partnership with ORBCOMM LLC, which operates the Orbcomm low-earth orbit satellite system. XATA is the first established provider to offer communications services over the Orbcomm network.
The major technology announcements began after XATA founder William P. Flies announced a shakeup in XATA's top management earlier this year.
In November of 2000, XATA and satellite communications provider Qualcomm announced an agreement to cooperate on fleet management and logistics applications for use with Qualcomm's MVPc onboard computer. However, in March of 2001 Qualcomm purchased the FleetAdvisor management system from Eaton Corp. and adapted that for use with the MVPc, effectively ending cooperation with XATA.
In its most recent press release, XATA said it will be announcing more enhancements to its Web-based fleet solutions.
