Wednesday was the final day of medium-duty truck assembly at GM’s Janesville, Wis., plant.

Production has been transferred to a GM plant in Flint, Mich., in an effort to consolidate GM’s lower-volume products. The plant has turned out more than 400,000 medium-duty units since 1989. The move affects more than 800 Janesville workers. The company laid off about 800 employees on the line last year.
Employees told The Wisconsin State Journal that the medium-duty trucks took a team effort to build because of the heavy amount of customization, such as the customer who wanted seven gauges visible in a dashboard with only five holes.
