Qualcomm has added three new security enhancements to its OmniTracs mobile communications system.
Driver Authentication, Wireless Panic Button and Tamper Detection are designed to reduce costs for companies that want added security by using the existing mobile communications technology provided by the OmniTracs system.
"Driver and load safety and security have become key concerns for trucking companies today," said Chris Wolfe, president of Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions.
The new Driver Authentication feature verifies driver identification and authorization to operate the vehicle through use of a unique ID and password with configurable alerts. The driver login is validated through over-the-air transmissions that interface with a secure database at Qualcomm’s OmniTracs Network Management Center.
The Wireless Panic Button extends the capability of the current in-dash panic button by providing an inexpensive wireless transmitter, which drivers can use should their safety become threatened while outside the vehicle.
The Tamper Detection feature alerts fleet management or the driver if an attempt is made to disable the OmniTracs unit.
