The Technology & Maintenance Council honored a number of members during its 2002 Annual Meeting and Transportation Equipment Exhibition
earlier this month in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Shannon M. Kuykendall, U.S. Postal Service, was awarded the Excellence in Maintenance Supervision Award. The award recognizes front-line supervisors who have displayed excellence and professionalism in maintenance supervision, both technically and administratively. Kuykendall, a fleet maintenance supervisor for an USPS vehicle maintenance facility in Waco, Texas, began his career in the USPS career in Waco in 1979 as an automotive mechanic and was promoted to supervisor in 1985. He now oversees an operation that includes nine employees, an 11-bay shop and a fleet of 342 postal vehicles.
TMC and the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence presented the TMC/ASE Technician of the Year Award to Sidney Elford of Wausau, Wis. Elford has worked as a maintenance technician for Ryder since 1973 and previously earned the award in 1998. He achieved the highest national rating on the ASE Master Heavy-Duty Truck certification test for 2001 from either a TMC member company or a service/dealer affiliate of a TMC member company. The test is administered nationally to thousands of technicians seeking ASE certification.
Five trucking industry suppliers were named Recognized Associates for their outstanding contributions to the improvement of equipment, its maintenance and maintenance management: John Adami, vice president of engineering, GT Development, Tukwilla, Wash.; Mike Goodheart, national sales manager, Power Fleet Group, The Penray Companies, Olathe, Kan.; John Martin, executive engineer, Lubrizol Corp., Wycliffe, Ohio; Jerry Woerner, service and warranty manager, Behr America, Charleston, S.C.; and Bill Zieske, OEM sales manager, Tuthill (Reyco/Granning), Springfield, Mo.
