The city of Pasadena, Texas, plans to build a truck inspection station near the interchange of Texas 225 and Beltway 8.

The Houston Chronicle reports tat the city's police department has been enforcing truck safety rules since the state passed legislation in the 1990s allowing cities of more than 100,000 to do so.
In 2001, Pasadeno officers inspected more than 1,500 trucks and put 963 of them out of service. About five officers work on commercial vehicle inspections.
The city's last attempt to build a truck inspection facility fizzled four years ago after strong opposition from trucking advocates and two state legislators concerned about traffic problems.
The city also is discussing restricting trucks to certain lanes on Texas 225.
