A man who saw the Jan. 5 fiery truck crash at the I-65 interchange in Birmingham, Ala., says the teenage auto driver cut in front of the trucker.

The crash, which killed the truck driver, destroyed a portion of I-65 southbound when the tanker truck exploded and the intense heat melted the steel supports above.
Jesse Cross, who saw the crash from where he was driving in the lane to the left and just behind the tanker, has told reporters that he saw the car cut across I-65 northbound in front of the fuel tanker.
Cross says the accident was simply the result of a mistake on the part of the car driver. The 18-year-old driver was not driving recklessly, he said. "I think he just made a bad decision."
Officials have not filed charges related to the crash.
