The Texas Department of Public Safety is giving its License and Weight troopers devices that detect trucks that are illegally using radar detectors.

Federal law prohibits the use of radar detectors in interstate commercial trucks, but that doesn't stop some truckers, and Texas is going to enforce the law.
Federal grant money from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration helped pay for 101 radar detector detectors, and 43 more could be purchased by this summer.
Although some Texas troopers have already been using the devices, the new purchases will eventually equip nearly every license and weight patrol vehicle in the state.
Independent owner-operator Joe Fiorello told the Associated Press he'll just take his chances on getting caught with his radar detector, saying the cost of fines is just another cost of doing business.
