Computrex Inc., a freight auditing and payment service in Lexington, Ky., is shutting down operations. In the process, it has stiffed carriers about $25 million for freight charges paid by shippers but never forwarded to carriers.

Traffic World reports that Computrex, which had been in operation for more than 25 years and offered a web-based service called FreightWorks Online, filed for bankruptcy earlier this month.
Lockheed Martin is one shipper who has sued Computrex over unpaid freight bills, with more than $435,000 placed in escrow for payments of Lockheed Martin's claims.
Computrex Inc. is not connected to Computrex Logistics in nearby Louisville, Ky. Computrex Logistics, a non-asset-based third-party logistics provider, notes on its website at www.e-computrex-com that "while Computrex Logistics has a similar name and a Kentucky home base, our company is totally separate and different from Computrex Inc."
