The U.S. General Services Administration has chosen ALK's PC*Miler-based DTOD 15.1 as the standard for determining highway mileage for federal civilian agency freight and household goods shipments.
DTOD is the worldwide standard distance calculation data and software for the Department of Defense's Defense Table of Official Distances. The PC*Miler-based DTOD replaces Rand McNally's Household Goods Carriers Bureau (HHG) mileages as the distance standard GSA uses for government shipments.
The GSA is a government agency that negotiates discounted freight and household goods transportation rate agreements with transportation service providers to move government shipments. GSA audits all transportation service provider billings for the entire federal government, both prior to and after payment.
"Standardizing on the PC*Miler-based DTOD as the official GSA source for determining highway mileage will eliminate distance disputes allowing our organization to operate with confidence and efficiency," according to a GSA spokesperson. (PC*Miler is the commercial version of DTOD.)
DTOD 15.1's newest enhancements include the ability to display routes and geographical data on computerized maps for improved operations visualization as well as routing for personal occupancy vehicles. The software also includes an enhanced North American and European database including 112,500 Standard Point Locations Codes as well as improved accuracy in all worldwide regions.
