XM Satellite Radio announced it will carry truck safety news and alerts from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

News about regulations and highway hazards will come from the DOT's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Also in the works is a call-in show that would feature Julie Cirillo, the agency's chief safety officer, according to XM.
The announcement was made during the International Trucking Show in Las Vegas, where XM demonstrated its new radio service. The channel will be one of up to 100 channels of music and information programming to be carried by the subscriber-based service when it launches later this summer.
