The European Union Commission wants mandatory speed limiters, or governors, on all truck and buses in the EU.

According to the Wall Street Journal, lowering the average speed would mean fewer accidents, less severe accidents, reduced fuel consumption, reduced emissions, and a more level playing field among truckers "who will no longer feel compelled to break speed limits to gain market advantage."
The proposal would apply to all freight vehicles over 3.5 tons and all passenger vehicles with more than 8 passenger seats.
