Chicago officials have had enough of truckers illegally parking their trucks along city streets
and now they want them to pay up.
The Chicago Sun Times reports the city has spent more than $20,000 to order wheel boots. The devices will keep the offending trucks from being moved, forcing truckers to pay $425 to get them taken off.
The Illinois Transportation Association says it doesn't have a problem with Chicago enforcing laws against illegal truck parking, but says it would like to see the city come up with alternative ways for solving the problem. They say the solution of attaching boots will only result in trucks being illegally parked even longer.
The increased enforcement has results in as many as 60 trucks getting booted each week. During the first three weeks of the year, 171 trucks have been booted, compared to just 307 during all of last year.
