Oracle Corp. of Redwood Shores, Calif., the software giant that made its name in database programming, has introduced an e-business product it calls Oracle Transportation Exchange
, software that automates the transportation management process.
According to spokeswoman Karen Houston, the system is hosted by Oracle, which supplies the software as an ASP (Application Service Provider).
According to Oracle, the new product manages logistics operations, providing a marketplace for the buying and selling transportation services, among other things. Shippers can manage the buying of logistics services -- contract or spot, across all modes, inclusive of storage and warehouse services. Transportation providers can sell capacity while improving business processes
Oracle Transportation Exchange is a component of the Oracle E-Business Suite, and is integrated with Oracle Exchange Marketplace, Oracle Supply Chain Exchange, and Oracle Product Development Exchange, a complete suite of collaborative B2B applications.
