North Dakota truckers, already struggling to stay afloat among record high fuel prices, have mixed feelings about a proposed vehicle registration fee increase.

According to the Associated Press, the $15 increase would help pay for $80 million in highway construction.
Marv Skar, president of Fargo, N.D.-based E.W. Wylie Corp., told the state's Senate Transportation Committee last week that the trucking industry realizes the need for good roads, but high fuel costs make the timing bad.
Skar did tell state legislators that the registration fee was preferable to an increase in the state's fuel tax. Two years ago, the state raised registration fees by $1 and raised the fuel tax by a penny a gallon.
The committee did not take immediate action on the proposed legislation.
